The Arm God

About The Arm God

The Brachydios. Perhaps one of the most feared monsters in the entire Monster Hunter franchise. This huge brute wyvern uses its incredibly tough blunt arms to bludgeon its foes. It can also secrete a volatile slime that it can coat its arms with to deliver an explosive punch. The Brachydios is nothing to scoff at and it has marked the end of many over-confident hunters (myself included).

The word "brachios" is the Greek word for arm, while "dios" is the Spanish word for god. So combined, the Brachydios' name translates to Arm God - hence the name of my arrangement. This arrangement was a very fun one to take on. I've always enjoyed the music of Monster Hunter and the original Brachydios Theme is one of my favorites.

This arrangement takes the original music and gives it a whole new mood, genre, and instrumentation. Doing this sort of transformation to a video game track is something I really enjoy listening to, especially from the artist insaneintherain. His arrangements have greatly influenced me over the years and I think that influence is the most obvious in this piece. Someday I'd like to record this in a similar fashion to the way he does!

When I first wrote this piece, it was originally for two trumpets, a french horn, and a trombone (and rhythm section). However, that is not a very easy ensemble to get together to rehearse, so I changed it to be for the small horn combo that you see now. I think this instrumentation fits the style of writing better anyways, so I have kept it this way.
